The current state of social media leaves us with a lot of questions. How can we stay united as music players amidst of platform monopolies?

Via this website, we try to stay connected as a music scene. We explore how we can find each other on decentralised platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky, but we also think about how we can represent a diverse and respectful perspective on Meta platforms.

First steps into new social media platforms

As an alternative to the big tech platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok), there a two so called 'decentralised' ecosystems. The first one is the Fediverse, with Mastodon as the biggest player, and the second one is the 'ATmosphere' ecosystem with Bluesky as the main actor. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Mastodon is bit more difficult to get started. If you have limited capacity, we recommend to start with Bluesky.

  • Sign up for an account at Bluesky or even skip to the next step to follow some accounts right away.
  • To start following some people from the Swiss music scene, have a look at the starter pack of Hilke, One Sentence Supervisor or Negative White. There is very handy 'Follow all' button. Hilke's starter pack mainly gathered the accounts from the other two starter packs and also created a feed, which is actually a list of accounts. To be added to this list, fill out the form on our website.
  • Start posting your content. Our community will only grow if we start posting and interacting with each other. You can start with announcing your shows and releases. Take advantage of the fact that it is possible to post direct links on this platform.
  • Explore custom feeds that you find interesting and add them to your home screen.
  • If you are a bit more adventurous, you can start exploring Mastodon. Hilke is in the process of a setting up our own server for the Swiss music scene on Mastodon. If you don't want to wait, you can join the Mastodon Social server. It is a bit more difficult to find other people on Mastodon... Registering via our form can help.
  • If you are attached to the Instagram esthetic, you can try out Flashes for Bluesky.
